This My Architecture Live Series @ AWS Sydney Summit : Versent’s Migration Factory

Versent was asked to take part in the “This Is My Architecture” series at the 2019 AWS Sydney Summit. The series focuses on unique architectures that solve real-world customer problems. I was lucky enough to be chosen to talk about Versent’s Migration Factory, which removes the heavy lifting away from moving servers from on-premises to AWS. In a first for AWS, the series was streamed live on Twitch from AWS Summit.

I was pretty nervous at the thought of being filmed live in front of an audience. This Is My Architecture Series is normally filmed in a studio with the potential to have as many re-takes to get it juuuuust right. But once I arrived on set, my nerves disappeared and was replaced with the heaving energy from the AWS Summit Live team. The place was buzzing – lights camera, action right in the middle of the Exhibition Hall.

With the help of some impressive hand drawn icons for the blackboard, made by the AWS Solution Architecture team, we were counted down by the production team 5,4,3,2,1 and Robb Carr (Solution Architect, AWS) and I were away!

With the cameras rolling, I explained Versent’s Migration Factory which we’ve built over the last three years. With the help of our incredibly talented engineers, the migration factory removes the heavy lifting away from moving servers from on-premises to AWS. Thanks to our bespoke solution, our migration team no longer has to manually migrate a server, which would normally take up to four hours, but has now been reduced to just 10 minutes without any manual intervention at all.

It was a lot of fun to be part of the “This Is My Architecture” series. I encourage anyone who has an AWS architecture to showcase to contact your AWS rep to be considered for the series.
